FSU football: Which 2022 signees will contribute as freshmen?

FSU football's Early Signing Period in 2022 did not go as expected. The coaching staff will need to remedy some recruiting misses through the transfer portal, and they've already started doing so with wide receiver pledges from Mycah Pittman and Johnny Wilson.

They've committed two offensive linemen via the transfer portal, which should give the five offensive linemen that signed early enough time to improve in their first year. On the Built For Playmakers Podcast, I discussed the lack of impact from most true freshmen across the board.




Based on their recruiting rankings, I believe most fans have unrealistic expectations for most rookies. Don't get me wrong: there are some must-see prospects like Jalen Ramsey and Derwin James who can make an immediate impact as freshmen, especially if they enroll early.

Most highly-rated players can see meaningful snaps as freshmen at defensive back.


Running back, in my opinion, is an offensive position where freshmen can contribute if they are physically ready.

The Noles had 16 players sign early in the 2021 recruiting class, but only Malik McClain, Omarion Cooper, and Kevin Knowles saw substantial action. Cooper was the only one of the three who didn't start school right away.


The majority of the 2022 signees will join early, which will help to accelerate their growth. Let's take a look at which 2022 signees we should expect to see next season as contributors.
